I discovered this image on Instagram and fell in love with it. It's a great guideline for all people, not only those who struggle with their mental health :) There are some great strategies just to have a healthy life overall... The only thing I would add to this is a little disclaimer to always ASK first for the hug.
Trauma-informed perspectives mean that we must ask before touching a person, in case that touch is unwanted, upsetting, or re-traumatizing (especially when a person is feeling emotionally vulnerable). Asking permission to hug someone can never make things worse, it can only show that you respect their wishes and boundaries. Alternatively, you can offer a side hug, a high five, a fist bump, a hand shake. If they decline, honor it with a smile and a wish for wellness <3
